Gareth Thomas Weird Fever

Gareth Thomas is pleased to present Weird Fever, his new disco-infused ‘minimal glitch funk’ single.

A commentary on the feeling of falling in love being strangely similar to that of being feverishly sick. The song is biographic for Thomas who met his girlfriend (Amelia Murray of dream pop indie band “Fazerdaze”) when they both had the flu.

“It’s a weird fever that makes me feel alright, my skin goes all bumpy with you, my throat gets all lumpy with you, we’re floating like dumplings and it feels right”

Amelia also sings on the recording and has a cameo in the video – as an 8 Bit character.

The Weird Fever video is a story of axolotls, pyjamas and 8-bit love. A video resulting from Gareth spending many late nights doodling with a one-pixel paintbrush animating his Fizzy Milk album cover in Photoshop.

“A cover so good you want it album size to frame” – Graham Reid – Elsewhere

In its undeniably New Zealand retro charm the video cameos 8 bit versions of the Foursquare Man, Chris Knox and sheep in full gridlock. It brings the “Fizzy Milk” album cover to life and references all Gareth’s previous videos from this album right back to his Goodshirt 2002 hit “Sophie”.

Weird Fever joins Gareth’s first three singles from Fizzy Milk, following from ‘Wallow’, the Silver Scroll nominated song ‘All Eyes In The Room’ which has accrued over 201,000 streams, and the spacey first single ‘I’d Like’ which has surpassed 63,000 plays on Spotify.

The fourth single from Gareth’s sophomore solo album, Fizzy Milk – noted as “an outstanding piece of music” by and acclaimed as “one of the best local albums of the year” by the New Zealand Herald.

“Fizzy Milk sets a very high threshold for intelligent kiwi pop albums this year” – Graham Reid – Elsewhere
